I create a wide variety of decorative and functional items using gourds combined with other media. Gourds are an interesting plant to grow and produce fruit, which harden as they dry. These can be as small as an inch or two and as large as a few feet wide of different shapes and sparking many imaginative suggestions. Their hollow interior (when cleaned out) makes them a suitable base for an infinite number of uses including stringed instruments, birdhouses, bird feeders, drums, water drums, containers, bowls, etc. The exterior is wood-like and has a wonderful acceptance to paints, wood burning, carring, and many other techniques of decorative art. For these reasons and more, they are a medium I never tire of. Each year brings a new crop of gourds, which means a variance in the sizes and shapes I use. While is it possible for me to reproduce an item, be aware the gourd used may be different from the picture shown here. Please note I am able to take orders by phone or mail (no credit cards) but do not use the Internet for communication. Local and mail delivery is possible. My work is also available locally at the By Hand Gallery in Bloomington and the Brown County Craft Gallery and Weed Patch Music Company in Nashville. I appreciate your patronage and willingness to purchase my work off-line as I rethink a new approach to a post-pandemic world. Thank you.
