We need volunteers like YOU to make Arts Fair on the Square a success!

 

Do you want to have fun, meet great people, and support local art all at the same time? Celebrating our 38th season, Arts Fair on the Square relies on its amazing volunteers for a successful event. Please join us to make this Arts Fair on the Square better than even before!

 

Sign up for flexible hours in a wide variety of positions integral to supporting art and artists on the beautiful grounds surrounding the Monroe County Courthouse on the best arts day in Bloomington! We have a wide variety of volunteer positions available including Traffic Control, Set-Up Assistant, Daily Runner, and Art Center Assistant. We will gladly work with your available time and interests. Sign up for as many or few of the two to four hour shifts that you like or let us know what times work better for you and we will happily pencil you in.

Volunteer position descriptions:

 

Check-In & Setup Assistant

 

Purpose: The position of Check-In Assistant is to help artists with unloading of materials and setting up the areas for the Arts Fair on the Square.

 

Time Commitment: There are two 2-hour shifts for Check-in Assistant volunteers, 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

 

Key Responsibilities:
Help put out signage for event
Help with unloading of artists' supplies and setup materials from vehicles
Assist with Art Centers setup
Provide coffee or water to the artists during setup
Other duties as assigned

 

Traffic Control Assistant

 

Purpose: Maintain order and the flow of traffic around the square as artists arrive and begin to unload, direct artists to their assigned booth locations and help manage the flow of traffic during setup and breakdown to make it as orderly as possible.

 

Time Commitment: There are three 2-hour shifts for Traffic Control Assistant volunteers, 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., or 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

 

Key Responsibilities:
Help with signage for the event
Assist in directing vehicles for unloading and loading
Direct artists to check-in or their assigned booth
Manage the flow of traffic through the courthouse lawn area
Other duties as assigned

 

Information Desk Positions

 

Purpose: BPP representative, Arts Fair Information representative, and Daily Runner.

 

Time Commitment: Varies

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

BPP Representative
To provide representation and information about the sponsoring organization and answer any questions artists or attendees might have regarding the organization or the event. BPP representatives should be very familiar with the most recent and upcoming BPP shows, events, and personnel. BPP representatives should also have a thorough understanding of Arts Fair on the Square including its history, audience, and event information.

 

Arts Fair Information
To provide representation and information about Arts Fair on the Square and answer any questions artists or attendees might have regarding the event including logistics (hours, parking, shuttle, bathrooms, exhibiting artists, community booths, entertainment, related events such as Taste of Bloomington), etc. Arts Fair Information personnel should also have a thorough understanding of the fair's history and audience. Arts Fair Information personnel should also be very familiar with the most recent and upcoming BPP shows, events, and personnel.

 

Daily Runner
To provide water and other supplies to the artists, watch artist booths when artists are in need of a break, and assist entertainment groups with setup and tear down. Other duties as assigned.

 

Interactive Art Center Assistant

 

Purpose: Art Center Assistants will explain art projects and assist participants in the creation of their artwork if necessary. Art Center Assistant will also make sure that the art center table is clean, organized, and stocked in accordance with traffic needs.

 

Time Commitment: There are four 2-hour shifts for Art Center volunteers, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., 2:00pm to 4:00 p.m., or 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.*

 

Key Responsibilities:
Monitor and maintain supplies in area
Assist participants at the activity tables
Other duties as assigned
*Clean-up of all art center materials and table from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

 

Check-Out & Tear-Down Assistant

 

Purpose: Check-Out Assistants ensure that all artists are checked-out in a timely fashion, help the artists break down their booths if necessary, assist artists in taking items to their vehicles, maintain a well organized loading zone schedule and keep the loading zones times to a minimum, and ensure that the courthouse grounds are clean and free of debris.

 

Time Commitment: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

 

Key Responsibilities:
Check booth areas to ensure artists are ready for check-out
Direct artists to check-out
Assist artists with loading of vehicles as needed
Help with clean-up after the event
Other duties as assigned

 

Photographer

 

Purpose: Digitally document all of the fair including artist booths, demonstrations, and entertainment. Previous experience required. Equipment preferred. All resulting imagery is property of the Bloomington Playwrights Project. Disc of the digital imaged required within 48 hours of fair close.

 

Time Commitment: Flexible two-hour shifts
